She kept one, and I have the other one, which is made by 'Brighton'. My question is - Is this one of those 'designer' items that must be authenticated before I can sell it here?

It has the 'Brighton' label inside, with 'Brighton' on the buckle and on the heart metal pull, and the 'Brighton' white cloth bag for storage. This is out of the area that I normally sell, and I don't have any way to 'authenticate' the brand, and I have only the one purse to sell. I can only put in the description what I know about it, which is what I have told all of you.

Writing the company does not always work. They are very cagey about sending information that might end up in the hands of a manufacturer who will use that information to make better fakes. Some designers absolutely refuse to give any information.

Doesn't mean your bag is or isn't real. Some things that might help you figure it out.

Who held the auction? Was it a liquidator, an auction house with lots from many sources, a police auction, an estate sale auction?

The first three are the shakiest as it could be someone getting rid of a lot of fakes or counterfeit bags the police confiscated although these should have been destroyed. Obd car doctor pro. Did all the bags come from the same source?

Were they all used? Did they look like new?

Were they all current or fairly recent styles? What kind of reputation does the auctioneer have? They can get in trouble for auctioning fake goods too. Police are known to scout auction houses looking for stolen and fake goods. Brighton used to be more popular than it is today. Then it was widely counterfeited. Today not so much.

It never was that expensive and now with people wanting the bags that legitimately retail in the many thousands of dollars Brighton has lost its appeal for counterfeiters. What I find online is that an authentic older Brighton handbag should have a 'Brighton Creed' tag inside, which this one does. An interesting note, the 'Brighton Creed' tag inside says '.crafted in China.'

, and I found an online review about Brighton handbags that says this is ok and correct - that high quality pieces are made in America and then sent to other countried for completion. My purse has a serial number that starts with 'D'. Funny thing, the Brighton website does not give you a clue as to where their products are made, or even where their main office is located. It appears to me to be made of high quality leather, and has high quality hardware buckle and heart. It has the cloth 'Brighton' dust cover bag. If I list this one Brighton purse on my eCRATER store, and I say in my listing exactly what it is marked, show photos of the inside 'Brighton Creed' and the hanging heart, and other hardware (which looks identical to those on the Brighton website), and list it as a used item, explain on the listing where I got it, and that I don't know anything else about it, will this be ok? I was shopping for boots, not an easy task as I have impossible feet. Finally I found a store selling Ugg boots. Ugg boots are advertised as 100% Australian. Inside is a tag saying they are made in China. The shop owner told me that the materials are all from Australia but are then shipped to China for the labor end of it.

This was a fairly high end shop so I'm assuming they weren't dealing in fakes. About the Brighton bags, at one time they probably were made in New York but when demand required mass production they may have moved their production facility to China. If they have an 800 number, I'd call and ask if their bags are made in China now.

Most of the counterfeit bags I've seen of any brand will say made in Italy or France, etc. Legitimate products made in China are required to include a made in China tag. By the way, I didn't buy Ugg boots. I found Soft Mocs are made by Ugg and look identical and are half the price.

I'm not very label conscious any more. Many years ago I purchased a Brighton Bag, I loved that bag. It was when Brighton first started selling purses. The serial number is #1,580, I think we paid around $100 dollars for it about 20 years ago.
