• 196 Answers SOURCE: On the side of the saw where the bar (what the chain goes around/rides on) where it connects to the saw there are a couple nuts. Loosen them up, push the bar back towards the saw to put slack in the chain, wrap the chair around the bar making sure the bottom of the chain is in the groove on the bar and tip of the bar, then push the bar forwards away from the saw to take out the slack in the chain. Hold it tight and tighten up the two nuts. Depending on your model of pole saw, you may have only one nut and a plastic guide that keeps it straight. Same concept though. Loosen the nut, push bar in, put chain on, pull bar out, tighten nut. If you've ever done it on a bicycle, it's the same concept.

Release the opener. Level the door with shims if necessary. 
Install the first cable and turn the spring main rod to hold tension. Put a vice grip on the main rod to keep it from unwinding any more Release the 2nd cable spool and thread the other side cable.
Turn the spool to have the same tension as the other cable. Then wind the spring about 6 revolutions. (35 flats or tool insertions).
Verfiy the cable is still threaded correctly on both sides. Correct spring tesnion is when the door will stay at 1/2 closed. REconnect the opener and good to go. Posted on Nov 10, 2010. The knobs that you 'messed' with is most likely the UP and DOWN limits. If it opens like it should! Then ignore the 'up' knob but, the down knob is the one your gonna want to turn to the - side of its opinion and not the + side whitch is already turned up too much, whitch is why as it is closing it retrieves back as it opens becouse the operator is sending the door too fare down.
